Project Description

Hunt Construction was awarded this contract to provide the Design | Build services for this new NFL training facility shortly after completing the Raymond James Stadium project.

As part of the Design | Build Group, Key FTE senior staff members assisted in the design of the three (3) natural turf playing fields underdrain collection system. The scope of service was to design and coordinate the construction of the sand based underdrain collection system to perform at the same level of expectations of the main stadium field. The main stadium field has been consistently ranked by the National Football Players Association as one of the top natural turf playing fields in the NFL for more than a decade.

The underdrain collection system was designed to handle the local seasonal high rainfall intensities for the 24 hour/25 year storm event. As a coastal community located in Florida, yearly rain fall events totals can accumulate as much as 72” of rainfall per year. Short term rainfall events can produce up to 4”in/hour during an afternoon rainfall event. The underdrain collections system was designed to meet these local weather conditions to allow for ready to play conditions within less than one (1) hour after the rain fall event occurred.

Further consideration of the replacement of one of the natural turf playing fields to synthetic turf is being considered not because of the playing field inability to handle historical rainfall events, but to allow the players to have experience playing on synthetic turf fields that continues to be installed in other NFL stadiums nationally.

*Key FTE staff members assisted in providing these services during employment with another firm.
