Project Details

Project Description

HISTORY

Opened August 1, 2006, it is a multipurpose stadium. It is the home of the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL) and the annual Fiesta Bowl. The stadium features the first fully retractable natural grass playing surface built in the United States on top of an AirField Systems drainage system. An opening on one side of the stadium allows the playing field to move to the exterior of the building, allowing the entire natural turf playing surface to be exposed to daylight.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

During the very early stages of the conceptual design concepts, Hunt Construction presented us with a major design challenge for are firm to explore the feasibility of a completely removal playing field tray system for the proposed stadium. We prepared a conceptual design concept package that was present to Hunt Construction, Arizona Cardinals Ownership and the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority. The results of the playing field concept presented, we demonstrated that it was very feasible to design and built the retractable playing field tray system. As a result of the concept design the project moved forward with the retractable playing field tray system. The system that was ultimately design and constructed was very similar to the actual original presentation information provided during the initial meeting. The firm copyrighted the original drawings in 2003.
